TIU

TIU (Time Is US) is wall clock designed reflecting on the notion of “reading time”. Wall clocks, as clocks in general, are artefacts created to give people the possibility to read what time it is, and in a way, make them aware of the time passing.

Maintaining the classical way of reading time – on a round background with 2 clock hands – Sara decided to emphasise the latter concept replacing the minute clock hand with a 60 cm diameters mirror, where the hand’s shape is cut out.
Like this, the wall clock won’t be only about minutes and hours but rather a “reminder” of the time passing, through what’s reflected in it; this could refer to daily activities, change of seasons or ageing.

The piece is the result of a collaboration between Sara Ferrari and Carmelo Colaci, an Italian artisan from Lecce, specialised in clocks for towers. (mondoelettronica.com)

In order to make the mirror rotate,in fact, a special mechanism had to be designed.

The hour clock hand is available in white and red.
